Disney with a splash of Feminism!
I'm Lisa. I am a masters student in history who is a bit too obsessed with the Disney princesses. I am a staunch feminist and The Little Mermaid and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs are my favorite films. I am interested in labor laws/politics, women's rights, US history (thesis focuses on the American Revolution), and Disney. This is also my personal blog.

Declaration of Independence & US Constitution

Signing of Declaration of Independence by John Trumbull

"Scene at the Signing of the Constitution of the United States" by artist Howard Chandler Christy

You know that document we learned about from School House Rock? We also learned the document in 1776. The Declaration of Independence was a document that stated we wanted our independence from Britain. It was a document that basically told King George “go fuck yourself, we are our own country now.” It is NOT a government document. It was a treasonous document. It was written by those rebels. It is not a document we use to run our government. That document was created in the same era, in 1787 the Constitution was written. You know, the law of the land. Along with the Constitution, there is the Bill of Rights which also is the law of the land. They were signed into law in 1789.

When arguing legal theory, one must use the Constitution and Bill of Rights. The Declaration of Independence is a great document, don’t get me wrong, but the founders are rolling over in there grave when people try to claim it is the law of the land.
